5th week in South Sudan
Within one day, we deal with more than 200 patients, we increase the bed capacity of our inpatient department. One interesting case that unfortunately we can not do anything is one suspected anasarca edema girl. I am really sad that we could not do anything with her. I did discussion my superior and my superior is discussing with his superior and eventually they said No, the argument is we are not Aid NGO we are emergency NGO who deal with emergency cases only.
At first I was really sad and angry as I could not do anything but I realized that I life in imperfect world.
Lets move on and enjoy the harsh and hot South Sudan. It is exotic desert with hot and cold environment. hot at the noon and cold at the morning. South Sudan is a petrol country, it has been devastated by the civil war for more than decade, it has rich untouched petrol resource. though rich in resource, the people still live in really poor condition and harsh environment.
I am about to work and stay for 2 months in Maban County inside the refugee camp, it is about 50 km from the border North and south Sudan. The only health infrastructure that is exist in the area is PHCC of Doro that take about 30 minute by car. The PHCC has very basic and poor condition of surgical facility and 2 overcrowded ward. The road is not asphalt and we have to cross the airstrip when we want to go to the refugee camp. so it is interesting when you use road as your airstrip. every time the plane land we have to guard every corner of the road so there is nobody even goat and donkey or dog pass the road. it is funny yet it is still exist, it is also really important as it will be dangerous if the plane hit something during take off and landing.
There is no more can I say right now but, enjoy the pics :-)
