4th week in South Sudan

The whole 3rd week of my mission here is getting harder and getting more complex. We expand the number of the bed double in just 1 week, we received referral from another site of the project, and one of our nurse assistants is quit unexpectedly. Plus our classic problem that is the low level of education and difficult medical supply make the mission even more astronomically difficult. We are overwhelm with the number of patient and we reduce our rest time that we have to do double job. I hope the coming week will be getting better with support from the capital team.

We have to dealt with spinal-bifida patient that eventually died in our ward. We cannot do anything, and that make me sad and frustrated. Someday I have to learn and study so I can do better for the population.

We received O2 concentrator (brand new one) and we used it for cerebral malaria, I am so amazed with the miracle of quinine. The child was convulsed and breathlessness, but in the morning he was awake like rose from the death. He ask for water and he seem so thirsty. I was really happy when he woke up.

We have to stay overnight because of security issue in the neighborhood. I have to coordinate the team to ensure the security of the team in the clinic, as we have to stay in the clinic and cannot return to the compound. I asked the guard to reinforce the door and tell them not to let everyone enter the gate without my approval. The team in the compound monitors us every 30 minutes. Jean Pierre our coordinator made a meeting with authorities and he asked them to ensure the safety of the road otherwise we cannot work. Afterward he came to the clinic and finally we can return to the compound.

But in 1hour I have to return to the base as we have to cover and supervised the clinic as we are still not comfortable with leave the national staff alone.

Well, it was nice and interesting to work in this place. I have to dealt with so many problem, I can learn everything and I can practice my medicine. And I hope someday I can be given the responsibilities and can carry that.

One of our nice nurse assistant gave me tamiya it I really nice!! J It is fried golden flour with a nice flavor.
